This type of scenario is never funny, the sky is either falling here or are things going from bad to insane. Nobody wants to make light of disease, but the timing of exiting a company under extreme pressure and getting cancer simultaneously is like lightning striking twice on the same day at the same time. I wish him well in his endeavors, but if I think the drama here appears extreme. Until I see him with a shaved head on the upcoming shave your head for cancer day, I won’t help but question the timing of this coincidence. Would cancer help or hurt his new resume?

This title simply sounded interesting, now I am going to fit something into the title. Originally I was going to write an article titled, “How to invest when investing”, but I liked the divesting concept as a twist. The idea is how to plan for retirement by getting out of investing or into profit generating enterprises without having significant risk. As a business person I have spent much of my time working to make a buck anyway that I can. Although I am not a traditional investor, everything I spend money on to make money on is an investment. Now, with retirement on the horizon I have considered the idea that simply not spending money to make money, or not in an excessive way, is the same as reducing my need for a large income. This is my divestment strategy, just stop working as hard, which in essence becomes a retirement. I’ll elaborate on how this works, but it varies significantly depending on what part of the country you live, which determines how much you need to live. More to come…

Sailing Season is upon us – Shiver Me Timbers!

I am hopeful to participate by enjoying the San Francisco Bay Area and sailing more this year. There are lots of races that I see in the distance when I drive over the bridges and a lot of anticipation about the upcoming America’s Cup Regatta and trials. I’ve never been able to get one of those fancy pants fast boats and get involved in yacht racing, but I like the idea of poking around and going out in the Bay and just hanging out, catching a breeze, avoiding a freighter, stuff like that. Every time I think this is a good idea though, I go outside and it’s friggin’ freezing in the middle of summer. Not ideal, but it should keep me clothed so I don’t get sunburned.

My nautical mission of the day is to start a list of the active fleets for sailboat racing in the San Francisco Bay just as a curiosity and for general information. No statistics, but maybe some schedules will be posted here to alert people of races that their boat may qualify for.

In the old days there were names like Cal, Moore and Santana that were around for single hull type of racing. I’ll start identifying and photographing the various styles of boats I see while I poke around the bay.

When I read about the political campaigns of Mitt Romney and Barack Obama I wonder whatever happened to Ron Paul. He isn’t a quitter, but I haven’t heard much about the Revolution lately. The Ron Paul Presidential campaign always seemed to have a good answer for many of the political issues, so I wonder if he is just waiting in the wings to make some sort of splash when the convention starts in the summer.
